Help Our House

PLEASE HELP!!!!

My house is literally falling apart. It started with a roof leak through the kitchen ceiling, and I thought it was just a roof issue. But after a roofer inspected it, I learned the real problem was rotting siding—the siding was pulling away, and it was junk to begin with. I contacted a siding company, and they confirmed that all of it needs to be ripped off, with other rotted areas replaced and all new siding installed. When they came out to do an estimate, they used a drone and discovered that the roof also needs to be replaced. There’s moss growing, missing shingles, flashing issues around the chimney, and more. On top of all that, my deck is falling apart—the boards are splintering and lifting, exposing nails, which is dangerous. The cost for all these repairs is overwhelming, especially as a low-income household living on minimal monthly SSI. Years ago, a plumber told me I needed about $15,000 to replace the plumbing, and that didn’t include the cost of a contractor to open up and repair the walls for access. If it weren’t for running my wildlife rescue out of this house, I’d try to sell it and get out from under the burden, but I’m not ready to give up on rescuing wildlife yet. I run Misfits Rehab, and for nearly 25 years, I’ve cared for all kinds of Maine wildlife—from mice and bats to porcupines, opossums, and beavers. Pretty much anything native to Maine that’s smaller than a deer has found a safe haven here. This house is not just my home; it’s the heart of Misfits Rehab and the animals that depend on me. I’m asking for help from the community to save my home and keep my wildlife rescue going. I can’t do it alone, and your support means everything to me and the animals I care for. Please help me overcome these urgent repairs so I can continue to give Maine’s wildlife a second chance.

About Us

How We're Helping

We take care of injured, orphaned or sick wildlife for the purpose of giving them a second chance at being a healthy WILD animal once again and to be released back into their natural habitat where they can thrive as nature intended. We are not paid by any agency (State or otherwise) so we organize fundraisers and solicit donations, community-cage-building events, and hands on training for our volunteers.

What people DON'T know about us!

We’re passionate about networking and helping others! For many years, Misfits Rehab covered the website costs and handled hosting, editing, and monitoring for Wilderness Miracles. We also share donations with other rehabbers, and if they don’t need them, we pass them on to nearby rescues and sanctuaries. We’ve also shared donated supplies to Kommunity Kritters, a local non-profit, and work closely with the humane society, fostering kittens/puppies in winter. We’ve also shipped supplies to organizations like Madi’s Mission in FL and other rehabbers all over the U.S.!

Stuff You Wouldn't Know - Behind The Scene

We’re passionate about supporting rescue/rehab worldwide and love backing small businesses! Twice a year, we host an auction where we gather donations from the public and ask small businesses/artists to contribute items to promote their work. Sometimes, we even buy items to resell in the auction. We don’t just post their items—we actively promote their websites and social media to help them grow!

We LITERALLY Help Around The WORLD!

We initially thought a Facebook message was a scam, but it turned out to be a real animal in need! A featherless parrot chick had been orphaned in India. We guided them through caring for the baby, as they didn’t have access to pet store supplies like we do in the US. After weeks of advice on nutrition and growth, they successfully raised the parrot and have since rescued others!
